Today’s I’m kicking off a 30 Day Living Libations experiment and I’d love for you to join the journey!
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know I love doing 30 day skincare experiments. My experiments usually involve trying new skincare ingredients or techniques and reporting back to you my results (like my castor oil experiment, and my dry oil cleansing experiment).
I’ve decided to start a new experiment series on The CLEAR SKIN Essentials, where I choose a brand and exclusively use their products for 30 days. Instead of only reporting my results at the very end of the 30 days, I want to bring you along the journey from start to finish. We’d start with selecting the products, trying them out for the first time, and I’d update you along the 30 day journey of how everything is working out. At the end of the 30 days I would do a final blog and video review of my results and observations, what I liked and didn’t like, and how the products performed overall.
I decided to kick off this series using Living Libations because we all know how much I love their products, and I know many of you are fans of their all natural skin care and body care range too.
A few months ago on Instagram I asked you which products you wanted me to try and review from Living Libations, and I got a whole bunch of amazing requests. This was great because there was a lot of products I didn’t know about that peaked my curiosity. Plus, there were quite a few products that were requested over and over again. The list was long, so to simplify the experiment I decided to choose just enough products to put together a simple skincare routine (cleanser, moisturizer, and treatment product). I was hoping to keep the skincare routine down to just 3 products, but I ended up with 5! (I will explain more about what I chose and why in today’s blog post and video below). Out of the 5 products, 4 of them I have never used before.
So to kick off the experiment, today I’m going to talk about:
- My history using Living Libations products.
- What products I chose for the 30 day experiment, and why?
- First impressions of all the products (make sure to watch today’s video to see all five products, how I used them, and my first impressions).
Over the course of the 30 day experiment, I will give you updates on Instagram (probably InstaStories) about how the experiment is going, how my skin is responding to the products and skincare routine. So do make sure to subscribe to my Instagram feed (my Instagram username is @theclearskinessentials).
At the end of the 30 day experiment, I will put together a blog post and video of my results and do a full review of each product.
If you have any questions about any of the products or how I’m using them, please post your questions in the comments section below so I make sure I address them in the Instagram updates and/or my final review.
Why I chose Living Libations for my 30 Day Experiment?
As you all know, I’m a big fan of Living Libations. I’ve known about their all-natural skincare and body care line for over a decade, but only started using their products about 7 years ago.
I used to have really bad adult acne. To clear up my skin, I went to extreme measures. Back in my early 30s (over 10 years ago), I embarked on a strict raw food diet and stopped using anything on my skin except for washing my face with smooth raw honey. The results I got were remarkable, my skin completely cleared up in less than 3 months (and this is after over 10-15 years of trying every pill, lotion, potion, and skincare system out there to clear up my skin).
I cleared up my skin really fast from the diet changes and minimizing my skincare routine. Because of all the health benefits I was getting from that lifestyle, I continued with the diet and minimal skincare routine for almost 4 years. I didn’t have to, but I wanted to.
Then in my mid-30s, I got off the raw food diet (I developed a Vitamin B12 deficiency and felt it was time to bring more variety and cooked food back into my life). My skin also needed more nourishment that I wasn’t getting from just washing my face with honey. Being in my mid-30s, I wanted to find some skincare products that could help moisturize my skin better and maybe even slow down the signs of aging. So along with eating cooked foods, whole foods and animal meats again, I wanted to try some skincare products too.
I wasn’t quite sure where to begin, and there was a part of me that was fearful I would get acne all over again, especially because I seemed to be changing my diet, lifestyle and skincare routine all at once.
But there was a strong pull to give it a go, and see what would happen (if it didn’t work out, I could always go back to what worked for me). Being into natural health and in the raw food circle at the time, I knew about Nadine Artemis and her Living Libations natural skincare, body care, and dental care line. I had always been curious and wanted to try her products, and if there was going to be one skincare product I would use after not using commercial skincare products for almost 4 years, it would Living Libations. I fully trusted the quality, purity, and integrity of the line (and that says a lot because I was quite the extreme purist at the time!).
I will never forget the first few products I tried from Living Libations: the RoseGlow Serum, SoothSayer Serum, and the Chocolate Karat Serum. The first time I wore one of their serums (the Chocolate Karat Serum), I got compliments on my skin. Being a person with bad acne in the past, I never got any complements on my skin before, even after my skin was clear for so many years. But suddenly I started using these serums, and people were remarking on how glowy my skin was and asking me what I was using. I couldn’t believe anyone would want to know what I was using, let alone complement me (it felt earth shattering!). And let’s just say, I was sold. This was where my love for Living Libations products began and why all these years I continue using their products and recommending them.
So recently, when I was thinking of doing the 30 day brand experiment, I immediately wanted to start with Living Libations. Not only because I love their products, but also because it’s been so many years that I have exclusively used just their products. Nowadays, and for probably the past 5 or so years, I’ve always used different products from different brands in my skincare routine, never committing to just one line. So I thought it would be a fun experiment to see what would happen if I just used Living Libations products for 30 days (and I wouldn’t mind getting that super glow back too!).
Which Living Libations products did I choose?
When I set out to select a few products for my 30 day experiment, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I was thinking a cleanser, moisturizer, and a gentle exfoliating product to use once or twice a week.
I also asked all of you on Instagram what products you wanted me to try from Living Libations. I received quite a few requests, and this really helped to narrow down my choices and make the final selection.
Considering that many of you are in North America and Europe, summer is starting, and I live in the hot tropics; I wanted to choose products that are lightweight and would work well in hotter weather.
The products I chose for my 30 day experiment:
My current goals with my skin is to keep it hydrated and balanced. I am prone to skin congestion, clogged pores, some redness. I would say my biggest skin challenge is lines, wrinkles, and loose crepey skin around my eyes. As for acne, for the most part I’ve conquered it, but, I do get the occasional breakouts from certain treat foods (ice cream in particular), stress, and lack of sleep. I am still breastfeeding my daughter Skye, so my postpartum hormones do affect my skin, and there are days where I feel a little worn and depleted.
For this experiment, I wanted to use all products I’ve never used or tried before from Living Libations. The only exception is the All Seeing Eye Crème that I have been using for many years. I love this eye creme and wanted to keep it in my routine.
I also completely regret not getting their Everyone Loves The Sunshine With Zinc (sun protection). I totally forgot about it, and it was only when someone asked me about it a few weeks ago, I thought “oh no, I wish I had this for my upcoming experiment!” So, I won’t have it for this experiment, but I will eventually get it and review it (hopefully in the next few months). So for this experiment I will continue using my regular mineral sunscreen every day.
Why did I choose these products?
Best Skin Ever – Frankincense
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know my love of Living Libations Best Skin Ever range. These oil blends are my absolute favourite for cleansing my face day and night. I’ve used many in the range (Seabuckthorn, Rose, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Tropical), but I have yet to try the Frankincense.
When I looked at the description of the Frankincense Best Skin Ever, and that it’s good for acne, redness, and “softening the appearance of scars and skin tone” – I definitely wanted to try it. I am curious to see how it differs from the Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever, which is another of the BSEs that Living Libations recommends for acne.
For my 30 day experiment, I plan to wash my face with it in the morning, and double cleanse with it at night.
For cleansing the skin, Living Libations recommends squirting a few pumps of the Best Skin Ever on a damp wash cloth, and massaging your face with the moistened cloth. Personally, this technique would irritate my skin (and to be honest, I’m not sure how well it would clean my skin). I much prefer applying and massaging the oil directly into my skin, and then lifting and removing the oil with a damp wash cloth (watch today’s video below to see how I wash my face with Living Libations Best Skin Ever).
For the sake of the experiment, at some point I might try their technique… we’ll see!
The Frankincense Best Skin Ever can be used as a facial cleanser, and also as a moisturizer. I plan to primarily use it as a facial cleanser, but I might experiement and see what it’s like using it as a moisturizer as well. In general, I don’t really like moisturizing my skin with oil during the day, but I’m up to trying it.

Rose Renewal + Frankincense Firming Fluid
For my moisturizer, I chose the Rose Renewal + Frankincense Firming Fluid.
Personally, during the day I much prefer using a cream or lotion to moisturize instead of an oil. This is just a personal preference, and the reason is because I find oils make my skin look super shiny, verging on greasy (especially in the summer heat).
I was REALLY intrigued by this product because it’s formulated to “firm sagging skin and ease fine lines and wrinkles.” That’s right up my alley of what I want! Plus, it’s a moisturizer, so it should hydrate your skin as well.
Also in the description it said it’s lightweight, good for warm weather.
I’m really excited to see how this product works out. It’s not always easy to find a good light weight moisturizer that really moisturizes the skin, and can help plump and smooth lines and wrinkles (a lot of products out there claim they can do that, but don’t). So we’ll see…!
Reading the reviews, a lot of people said this product helped with fading scars and evening their skin tone. So I’m definitely curious to see how this product performs.

All Season Serum
One of our subscribers requested that I review the All Season Serum, and when I looked it up on Living Libations website, I was intrigued. Initially, I was planning on getting the Royal Rose CoQ10 Serum (I’ve been eyeing it for years), but, when I looked up the All Seasons Serum, I really wanted to try it.
What intrigued me the most is the first ingredient is Camellia Seed Oil which is known to be a “dry” oil because it absorbs so fast with no heavy greasiness. Anything that will moisturize and hydrate my skin without making me look oily, I want to try. Plus, camellia seed oil is high in oleic acid (super moisturizing), full of antioxidants, and non-comedogenic.
This serum is an oil blend serum. Other oils in the serum include jojoba oil and essential oils like myrrh, sandalwood, frankincense, immortelle, ylang, rockrose, lemon verbena, franconia, and lemon.
I’m planning on using this at night, but we’ll see if it’s light enough to use during the day too.
I want to experiment with using it on it’s own, as well as layered or mixed with the Rose Renewal + Frankincense Firming Fluid.
If this serum is light enough to use during the day, I will be super thrilled (I’ve been searching forever for a lightweight oil I can use during the day that isn’t heavy or greasy). I find oils do wonders at softening the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and creppy skin, but I don’t want to look too shiny or glossy, because I find that can emphasize pores and texture. I am excited to see how this will work on my skin.

All Seeing Eye Crème
This product isn’t new to me. I’ve been using it for years. The All Seeing Eye Crème is one of my most favourite eye products for hydrating the skin around my eyes and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. I decided to add this in the experiment because I really like using it.
I also suffer from seasonal allergies, and this products really helps to sooth my irritated eyes and reduce puffiness. It’s also very cooling. I like to store it in my refrigerator which doubles the cooling effect and wakes up my tired eyes in the morning.
Along with applying it under my eyes and on my brow bone, at night I also apply it on my upper lip. I once had an esthetician recommend using eye creams for this area to smooth the appearance of lines around the mouth and lips. I find this helps, and even though the All Seeing Eye Creme is very hydrating, it’s not heavy, never clogs pores. I can sometimes get milia around my eyes, and I’ve never had an issue using this product.
The base of the All Seeing Eye Creme is aloe vera, with a few oils and essential oils running through it. Because of the aloe vera, it’s not heavy, but very hydrating, and the added oils really help to soften and condition your skin.

Royal Rose Honey Mask Active Enzymes + Clarifying Clay
Out of all the Living Libations products requested to review, the Royal Rose Honey Mask Active Enzymes + Clarifying Clay was the most requested (the second most request was the RoseGlow products which I plan to review later this year).
The Royal Rose Honey Mask can be used as a daily cleanser or as a mask. The rose clay, pearl powder, rose petals, and honey act as a gentle exfoliant, while the CoQ10 can help tone and firm the skin.
I wanted to add this to my routine to exfoliate my skin. I was planning to use it as a mask 1-2 times a week, but I will also try it out as a cleanser to see how it works.
Normally I’m not the biggest fan of clay masks, I find they can dehydrate my “maturing” skin. But, rose clay is known to being very gentle (even for sensitive skin), and I’m hoping the honey and essential oils will counter any dryness and bring extra hydration into my skin. It will be interesting to see how this mask works out. The excitement around Royal Rose Honey Mask Active Enzymes + Clarifying Clay was big, so there must be something about this product people are drawn to.
My first impressions + demo of all these products

I have to say, all the products were great, but there was one product in particular that was OUTSTANDING. I was completely blown away. It far surpassed my expectations (watch today’s video to find out which one!)
